During the weeks of June 5th-17th, 2005 GEAR UP in conjunction with Thomasville and High Point Central High Schools sponsored a Summer Enrichment Camp housed on the campus of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Students “shadowed” professionals based on their career choices, and attended math and science classes daily. Students used PTC Pro/DESKTOP© software to construct a moving vehicle powered solely by the energy stored in a spring from a standard mouse trap. GEAR UP MAH & PAH Pre-College Initiative Mission Statement

This project assists students in gaining an awareness of and beginning preparation for undergraduate education beginning in middle school; thereafter, to augment that preparation during high school by completing college preparatory courses.

Further, this program provides support to students, parents, and educators in its endeavor to increase underprivileged children’s chances of enrolling in and succeeding in post-secondary education.
